The City of Denver, also the Capitol of the State of Colorado, has an elevation of exactly one mile above sea level. The city was not built on a road, railroad, lake, navigable river or body of water like most U.S. cities of its time, but rather was founded where the first gold in Colorado was found in 1858. Now it is one of only two cities in America to have eight professional sports teams. Metropolitan Denver also brews more beer than any other city in the U.S.
Denver is served by the fifth busiest airport in the United States. The city itself has a compact, walkable downtown and the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel, where the 2013 MMM Conference will be held, is located directly on a mile-long pedestrian promenade. Free shuttle buses stop on every corner of this mall, making everything downtown easy to reach. This 16th Street Mall, designed by famed architect I.M. Pei is lined with 200 trees, 50,000 flowers, outdoor cafes and inviting shops. The Denver Performing Arts Complex is the second-largest in the nation. Ninety-minute backstage tours are available, visiting everything from the dressing rooms to costume and scenery shops.
Denver enjoys 300 days of sunshine each year. November days average a high temperature of 45 degrees Fahrenheit and a low of 25 degrees Fahrenheit. To learn more about Denver, the State of Colorado, and all that you can see and do while visiting there, please visit the web site at: http://www.denver.org/visitDenver/.
